Student Life At Groton Farm School

Hi! Our names are Acacia and Sofia and we are considered two of the “big kids” at Groton Farm School. We are so excited to be the authors of the very first student blog post!

Today we are going to be talking about what it’s like to go to Groton Farm School.

Have you ever groomed a donkey or fed an alpaca at school?! Well, we have! As a matter of fact, we do it every day! Grooming and doing farm chores are a part of our daily schedule.

The best part about going to a farm school is that we take our learning outside in nature. We climb trees, run in the pastures, practice our math lessons and science experiments, and read books.

Our teachers use nature as our outdoor classroom and WE LOVE IT!

Going To School With Multi-Aged Kids

We think going to school with kids of all ages is super cool because the big kids are mentors to the little kids.

When we work on learning activities with the little kids, we teach them things we’ve been taught, and sometimes they even teach us!

Feeding The Animals

During recess, we get to feed all the animals. First, we head out to the barn and feed our 2 goats, 2 sheep, and 2 bunnies.

Next, we feed lunch to the equines, 2 miniature donkeys and a miniature horse and we can’t forget our 16 alpacas too!

We bring the food to their pens.

Lastly, we bring hay to all the animals.

Environment

Going to school on a farm means there are a ton of fun places to go like the barn, the apple orchard, the pool, giant tent, the animal pastures, and more.

It’s never boring! We don’t sit at a desk all day long! We get to explore.

When we look outside the classroom window, we can see eating alpacas, fighting alpacas, and even escaping alpacas! It’s so much fun to watch!

It’s never dull at our farm school!

All the cozy places on the farm are what make it feel like home. We are a big family at GFS!

How The Animals Make Us Feel

When we are around our farm animals, they calm us, and make us feel cheerful. They let us pet and snuggle them.

Even if we make a huge mistake or just a little one, the animals will always love us. They don’t judge us.

All the animals on the farm make us feel safe.

Experience

Groton Farm School will definitely be an experience we will remember forever. It’s an amazing opportunity that we have and we are so grateful to be a part of GFS!

We hope you enjoyed the first blog post of the Big Dog Blog. We had a lot of fun writing it.

Thank you for reading!
